Holtz's daughter

Holtz hunted Angelus and Darla for turning his young Holtz daughter into a vampire.

For 150 years he and Darla roamed the world causing mayhem and havoc as they went, earning Angelus the nickname the scourge of Europe.  Some of his rampages were in England and here he came across vampire hunter, Holtz and his band who chased him and Darla through England.  Angelus is eventually caught and tortured by Holtz, but Darla comes to the rescue and in revenge they feast on Holtz's family, turning his young daughter into a vampire.

Holtz was an 18th century English vampire hunter who chased Angelus and Darla through much of Europe and North Africa. He had connections to powerful warlocks within the Catholic Church and an army at his command. Angelus and Darla attacked his family, killing his wife and turning his small daughter into a vampire. Holtz killed his daughter by throwing into the sunlight.....He gave up his hunt and became a hermit.....

After a time, the demon Sahjahn came to him and offered a new chance to get his revenge. Holtz was transported through time and space to Los Angeles in 2001, where he recruited another army to hunt and kill Angel and Darla. A lot had changed in those 200 years. Darla was pregnant and Angel had a soul. Since his motives were not justice but rather vengeance, Holtz used Angel's newborn son Connor as a grand plot for revenge. Holtz recruited a would-be Slayer named Justine to help with this plot. Shortly after birth, Holtz arranged for Wesley to kidnap Connor. A tense four-way confrontation between Angel, Wolfram and Hart, Holtz, and Sahjahn ensued. Holtz ended up jumping through a dimensional rift into the Q'or-Toth dimension, where time moves faster than on earth. In a days on Earth, years had passed in Q'or-Toth, and Holtz had raised Connor as his own son and instilled a deep hatred of Angel within him. Connor found a way to return to Earth, and an elderly Holtz soon followed. Holtz gave the impression that he wanted Connor to live a healthy life with his true father, but this was simply the final phase of the plot. Holtz had Justine kill him, simulating a vampire attack, and blamed it on Angel. Furious, Connor sought revenge on Angel.

Holtz, like many Angel villans, is not evil per se. In fact, he was a force for great good in the 18th century. However, his life was rocked by the consequences of his good deeds, and he was never able to forgive or forget. After his family was killed, only his bitterness and hatred kept him alive. He did not recognize that Angel's restored soul gave him any more right to exist than any other vampire, and indeed used that soul as an instrument of torture. Even in death, Holtz thought of nothing but his own revenge. One could argue that he finally gave Angel what he deserved.
